History of AHBC – Years of Ministry and Missions

Augusta Heights Baptist Church has celebrated years of ministry on Augusta Road and around the world. On October 8, 1950, an organizational meeting was held and AHBC became a reality. It came into being through the efforts of some dedicated members from Augusta Road Baptist, First Baptist, Pendleton Street and Earle Street Baptist Churches.

The first services were held at Payne’s Dairy, which was located across the street from the current location. There were twenty-eight original members.

The church and its people grew under the devoted guidance of the former ministers:

Dr. L.E. Smith  (1951-56)

Rev. DeLoyd Self (1957-82)

Dr. Frederick Andrea, III (1983-89)

Dr. Kenneth Norris (1990-94)

Rev. Howard Wimmer (1995-2006)

Dr. Dan R. Vincent

And now, after years, Augusta Heights, under the leadership of our current minister, Dr. Dan R. Vincent (2007 – present), is a loving, caring people, standing strong and looking “Forward In Faith” to a hopeful future. We are an optimistic group, excited about the deepening faith of God’s people and we stand ready to touch the lives of this neighborhood and community with God’s love. May God continue to bless and strengthen this body of faith so that we can fulfill our purpose and mission here on this hill.
